Český Krumlov

The Town was founded in 13th century and has retained its former medieval character. Český Krumlov castle is the second largest in the country after Prague castle. It was a seat of the powerful Rozmberk and Schwarzenberg families and now houses rich historical collections. In the castle gardens you cannot miss the unique 18th century castle theatre.

The town of Český Krumlov, situated in a picturesque environment on the meandering river Vltava, is one of the most beautiful and architecturally best preserved towns in the Czech Republic. It was first mentioned in historical records in 1253. Its first owners, who were also the owners of the local castle, were the lords of Krumlov.

This unique historical complex consisting of more than 300 Gothic and Renaissance buildings boats an unusually well- preserved medieval urban composition. Because of its unique character, the town was entered in 1992 in the UNESCO List of World Cultural and natural Heritage. Every year the town becomes the venue of the Renaissance- style Celebrations of the Cinquefoil Rose, festivals of chamber, jazz and ancient music and a range of other events.
